Captains Weekend

Our Captain’s Weekend runs on 25th and 26th June.

For the benefit of some of our newer members, and as a reminder to those who might not have participated In Captain’s Weekend in recent years, this is one of the highlights of the club’s calendar.

On Friday 24th June the kitchen will be closed at 5pm . Thereafter Bar food will be available from the bar. The course will close at 6pm. Volunteers will help on the course, when finished they are invited into the bar for some light refreshments. The bar will remain open until close.

On Saturday 25th there is Men’s 18-hole medal competition, with tee times from 7.30am to 3.00pm. You will be greeted by our Captain, Roger Bates, on the 1st tee. The top 12 qualifiers from the medal competition will be invited to a 9-hole play-off on the Sunday afternoon starting at 3.30pm, so if you are playing well, keep that afternoon free! The Bar and Kitchen will open from 8.00am and the breakfast will be served all day. Ladies will play a 9 Hole Competition commencing at 4.30pm. Food on a pre-ordered basis – the list will be in the Changing room.

On Sunday 26th there are two fourball competitions – a Men’s Foursomes starting at 7.30am and a Mixed Greensomes starting at 10.20am. All players should be finished before the start of the afternoon play-offs. The Bar will be open from 8.00am until close. The Kitchen will be open from 8.00am and breakfast served throughout the day.

In addition to these competitions, there is an 18-hole Junior competition on the Saturday afternoon and the top 3 Juniors also qualify for a play-off on the Sunday afternoon, followed by a 9-hole fun Ladies competition.

There are prizes on offer for the winners of all these competitions, and the winner of the Captain’s Prize, after the play-off, receives a generous gift from the Captain.

We encourage all members to come and support the play-off qualifiers, and this usually ensures that after being announced and welcomed to the tee, the tee shot on the 10th hole is a nerve-wracking experience for many of the qualifiers!

After the play-off has been completed and the scores have been tallied, there will be a prize giving ceremony, and we really encourage all members to be at the club to congratulate the winners of these prestigious club competitions.

The club will be running a full catering service over both days in the clubhouse and from the half-way hut, so we hope that you will take advantage of these facilities.

Our Restaurant is open all day and tables can be booked from 12 Noon onwards.

Players and guests can pre-order and book our Chef’s Special – a large Yorkshire Pudding filled with beef, vegetables and gravy. For dessert Blackboards on the Bar will show our choices.

Members discount applies to all food in the clubhouse.

The Captain and his guests will eat around 7.00pm.

Finally, the course will be closed on the Saturday and Sunday unless you are playing in one of these competitions. In addition, the course will be closed to all from 6.00pm on Friday 24th July to enable final course preparations to be completed. From around 5.30pm that evening, a number of volunteers traditionally gather at the club to assist with these preparations, such as bunker raking etc. Captain Roger would be pleased to welcome any volunteers to assist him with these tasks, so if you are available, please try to give an hour or so to support him.
